China-ASEAN trade grows nearly 60% between Jan. and Apr.

From January to April this year, China-ASEAN trade volume increased 58.5 percent year-on-year, according to the latest data from China's Ministry of Commerce (MFOFCOM).

China's exports to ASEAN countries rose 45.6 percent in the first four months of 2010 year-on-year, and its imports from ASEAN surged 71.7 percent, surpassing the growth rate of China's overall exports and imports over the same period, said Lu Kejian, director general of Department of Asian Affairs of the MOFCOM.

Since the China-ASEAN Free Trade Area was established at the beginning of 2010, the economic and trade relations between China and the 10 ASEAN countries has experienced rapid growth.

By the end of April, accumulated reciprocal investment volume between China and ASEAN has reached 70 billion U.S. dollars. ASEAN's investment to China amounted to 60 billion U.S. dollars, and China had cumulative investment of 10 billion U.S. dollars in ASEAN, he said.

Both sides has deepened bilateral economic and trade ties on infrastructure construction, agriculture, manufacturing, processing and other industries, Lu added.

In April this year, China announced it would offer 15 billion U.S. dollars of loans to the ASEAN countries in next three to five years and decided to set up "China-ASEAN Fund on Investment Cooperation" to support infrastructure construction in the ASEAN.
