Zhong Dajun, director of the Beijing Dajun Economy Observer Institute, told the Global Times that "The government is being prompted to adjust unfair income distribution by the recent spate of labor walkouts."

Workers have realized that they have to pursue their legal rights to ensure higher income and a satisfactory working environment, Zhong said.

"The government must play a leading role in wealth distribution together with the help of market mechanisms and economic policies," he added.

Yang Yiyong, director of the Social Development Research Department at the National Development and Reform Commission, told the Global Times that "The reform of income distribution is a systematic procedure involving the government and many other interest groups."

"Only an administrative plan won't change the current distribution structure fundamentally," he said.

Yang urged the government to increase urban-rural integration, the ratio of citizens' income to GDP, break industrial monopoly and allow more market access to private capital.

Guo Qiang and Xinhua contributed to this story.
