Guangdong's GDP exceeds Saudi Arabia

Guangdong's GDP has exceeded that of Saudi Arabia, Argentina and South Africa in 2008, said a report released by Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) February 28.

The report pointed out that judging from per capita GDP, Shanghai, Beijing and Tianjin’s GDP were no less than some of the G20 countries. While the GDP of Guangdong, Jiangsu, Shandong and Zhejiang provinces exceeded some G20 countries.

China has entered the second half of the middle stage of industrialization. The next step is how to become a country with strong industry, said Huang Qunhui, deputy director of Bureau of Scientific Research Management at CASS.

Specifically, Shanghai and Beijing have been in the post-industrialization stage; Tianjin and Guangdong remain in the latter half of post-industrialization stage; Zhejiang, Jiangsu and Shandong stand at the first part of post-industrialization; Liaoning and Fujian are in the latter half of the mid-stage of industrialization; Shanxi, Inner Mongolia and another 10 provinces stand at the first half of the mid-stage of industrialization; Henan, Hunan and other 10 provinces are in the latter half of the initial stage of industrialization; Guizhou lies in the first half of the initial stage of industrialization; while Tibet is still in the pre-industrial stage, said Huang.
