Foreign Relief Goods Were Successively Delivered to the Earthquake-stricken Sichuan

Early on the morning of May 25, the relief materials including 277 tents, medical equipment, medicine, tea, clothes and commodities donated by Sri Lankan government to the earthquake-hit Sichuan, China were delivered from Colombo and expected to arrive in Chengdu on the morning of the same day.
The “Hope Flight” jointly launched by Boeing and Shenzhen Airlines, on May 24, kicked off. The new Boeing 737-800 delivered by Boeing to Shenzhen Airlines the same day flew to China with nearly 3 tons of medicine goods, which were provided by international medical groups and US charity organizations.
In order to support the quake-hit Sichuan, Chinese Embassy to France recently launched an emergency action of supplying relief tents. The first batch of 44 large-scale tents weighed 15 tons on the morning of May 24, were loaded on the plane in Aeroports de Paris and delivered freely by Air China to the disaster areas.
At 22pm of May 24, when the last truck fully loaded with relief materials contributed by Tajikistan smoothly arrived in IIkshtan port of the border between China and Tajikistan, the relief materials from Pakistan, Tajikistan and other countries’ governments to China’s quake-hit areas had been totally transported to China. Xinjiang Urgur Autonomous Regional government received the donations on behalf of Chinese government.
It was known that the donated relief materials from Tajikistan mainly consisted of 150 tents, 1500 quilts and 20 tons of drinking water while Pakistan donated 6000 tents.
Samaritan’s Purse, one of US non-governmental organizations, offered all sorts of relief materials valued at more than USD1m to China’s disaster regions, which were delivered to Chengdu Shuangliu Airport on the night of May 24. It was the first foreign non-governmental organization that specially chartered a plane to transport the relief material to the disaster areas after the earthquake happened in Wenchuan.
