News from Mozambique-based media said that according to statistics of the Investment Promotion Center (CPI) of Mozambique, China’s investment in the country totaled USD60m in 2007, the 6th largest FDI in the country as well as the largest FDI Mozambique attracted from a single country among Asian large economies in recent years, which were mainly in agriculture, public works and forestry with 69 projects totally. China is the only country that set up an investment promotion center in Mozambique. In 2003, it invested USD10m in the country, ranking 9th largest at that time. The statistics from CPI shown among 36 countries invested in Mozambique in 2007, the US remained as the largest investor and also the main investor in recent year with investment over USD5b, followed by Swaziland with USD171m, Mauritius with USD151m, the UK with USD91m, South Africa with USD79m and Portugal with USD54m. The last was Belgium, one project with USD37, 000. |
