Domestic enterprises should look upon the global financial crisis as an opportunity to expand their market share in foreign countries, according to an editorial in a local newspaper in Shanghai. An article in the Jiefang Daily said domestic companies should take advantage of the weakening global economy and the appreciation of the Chinese currency and seek more opportunities to work with international manufacturers and establish production bases overseas. In doing so, Chinese manufacturers can avoid the side effects of the renminbi's appreciation on exports and avoid existing trade barriers. The article warns that because overseas investment is highly risky, Chinese companies should have comprehensive understanding of the economic situation, financial policies and cultural background of their destination countries before they invest. |
